In rabbits, deficiencies in Vitamin D have been identified as a large risk factor in the development of dental diseases and bone infections. As is the case with other mammals, Vitamin D is a critical component of calcium metabolism, skeletal and cardiovascular health.

UVB light is an important precursor in the synthesis of Vitamin D. Studies have shown that rabbits exposed for as little as 6 hours a day to artificial UVB light benefited from an increase in Vitamin D.

The string included in this package can be used as a rough guideline to measure the distance between the UVB light bulb and your bunny. The distance should not exceed the length of the string. The lightbulb should be tested and replaced every 6-12 months.
